Chris Reilly

Next Door Video Series #3
September 21 – October 4, 2007

In his work 10 days of categorized activity arranged in ascending order of importance Reilly films his activities in order to analyze and understand his own lifestyle, and to allow or invite the possibility of improvements. In the second stage of the two part project titled Self Improvement Through Photography, Reilly carries a digital camera everywhere for ten days, keeping himself in the frame at all times. With hopes of inciting some personal changes, the images are categorized according to which activities are being performed: eating, sleeping, showering, sex, etc and sorted and ranked in ascending order of importance. Reilly talks about his motivations: “Most artwork I do has little or no prospect of directly causing me to change my own behavior, especially behavior that is not directly related to the art-making process; I see this as a chance to mature, directly, from an artistic action.”
